Kara Hanlon at the Scottish 'open' Championships

Two weekends ago Kara was taking part in the Scottish National Open Championships in Edinburgh's
Commonwealth Swimming pool. Kara was competing in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke races. Going into the races Kara was ranked 14th, 10th and 20th respectively. Kara performed fantastically well considering this was an 'open' championships. Kara was 10th fastest in the 100m Breaststroke Race and made the B final. She impressively made the A Final in the 50m swimming a 34.67 to qualify as the 7th fastest.

Overall after analysing the event results, Kara was 12th Senior and 4th Junior in the 100m Breaststroke. In the 50m she was ranked 7th Senior and 3rd Junior. In the 200m Breaststroke she finished 11th Senior and 4th Junior! (Junior is 16 and under). Kara swam two Personal Bests in the 50m and 200m events and has another year to go as a Junior in the same competition next year!

There is no surprise that she was awarded the Iain Morrison MacLeod Cup during the Nicolson's Prize Giving for 'Sports Person of the Year' and along with having an unbelievable year in the swimming pool  (scottish schools and scottish age group medals) she still found time to compete and finish 3rd in the school individual athletics championships. Kara's performances are down to hard work and seeking competitions to better her times and ability. We wish Kara all the best for all her events in the lead up to the Island Games next July in Bermuda.
