Here is the first of many sports profiles of our talented pupils representing The Western Isles at the NatWest Island Games 2015. First Up we have a real medal contender in Kara Hanlon.

Sport/Discipline: Swimming
Sporting Hero: Adam Peaty
Best achievement in Sport to date:
  • Making the commonwealth games qualifying time but narrowly missing out on selection
  • Scottish record holder for 50m breaststroke for 16 and 17 year olds
  • Double Scottish Junior Champion
  • 17/18 year old 200m breaststroke British bronze medallist
  • Currently 5th fastest 50m breaststroker in the UK
How are you preparing for the games?
Training in the pool 9 times a week with 3 additional gym sessions. Traveling to Barcelona with Edinburgh University for a training camp and races. this will help give me some experience on the European stage before the games.

What are your targets for the Games?
  • To come away with a new personal best
  • To reach finals
  • To win a medal
What are you most looking forward to at the games?
  • Competing against athletes from different islands
  • Competing in the relay as we have never had enough swimmers to do so before
  • The team spirit of The Western Isles!
